#5 — Niagara Power Vista
If you've got curious kids in your group, this is one of the most underrated things to do in Niagara Falls, NY. And the price is hard to argue with: completely free.
Located just five miles downstream from the Falls in Lewiston, the Niagara Power Vista is an interactive learning center run by the New York Power Authority, and it's genuinely impressive. There are over 50 hands-on exhibits covering hydroelectricity, engineering, and the geology of the Niagara Gorge. Kids can design their own dam, operate a power grid during a simulated storm, and walk through a full-scale turbine model. The crown jewel is the Power Player Experience. A high-tech virtual ride that sends you plummeting into the Niagara River, shooting through the penstocks, and zipping along power lines across New York State.
The building itself sits 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge, with a glass-enclosed walkway and an outdoor observation deck that offers some of the most dramatic views in the region- views most tourists never see because they're all crowded around the same two or three overlooks. Parking is free, admission is free, and a seasonal shuttle connects it back to the Falls. Plan an hour or two and leave smarter than you arrived.
